Composite graft using an Edwards Intuity Elite rapid deployment bioprosthesis for aortic root replacement
Journal of Cardiac Surgery
Aortic root replacement using the Bentall technique can be performed with composite grafts using either mechanical or bioprosthesis.
The Authors describe a technique using an Edwards Intuity Elite rapid deployment bioprosthesis to construct a composite graft for an aortic root replacement, in a 72-year-old male (63 Kg) presented with chest pain and was found to have a 5.2 × 6.0-cm aortic root aneurysm on a thoracic computed tomography (CT) scan. There are several advantages to using this kind of bioprosthesis as part of a composite graft for aortic root replacement, first of all that long-term anticoagulation is avoided and that the prosthesis may be inserted using less sutures than a traditional bioprosthesis.
