PNRR Projects
Projects Led by Centro Cardiologico Monzino within the Framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) – Health Mission
The Health Mission (Mission 6) is the sixth intervention area of Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), funded through the European Union’s NextGenerationEU program.
Under the PNRR, €15.63 billion—equivalent to 8.16% of the Plan’s total budget—has been allocated to Mission 6 to support major reforms and investments aimed at strengthening the Italian National Health Service (SSN) by 2026.
Centro Cardiologico Monzino IRCCS is involved in Component 2 – Innovation, Research and Digitalization of the National Health Service, which focuses on enhancing scientific research in the biomedical sector of the SSN. This initiative builds on the positive outcomes of the IRCCS reform and promotes coordination and collaboration with research ecosystem programs supported by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and technology transfer initiatives promoted by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (formerly MISE), including joint actions with the Ministry of Health.
Funded Research Areas
The investment supports three main categories of projects:
Rare Diseases and Rare Cancers
Research programs and projects aimed at strengthening the response capacity of Italian centers of excellence and developing innovative care models to improve overall patient management and quality of care.
Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases
Research projects addressing diseases with a significant impact on healthcare and social care systems, focusing on:
- Risk factors and prevention
- Disease etiology and pathophysiology
- Underlying mechanisms of disease
Proof of Concept
Projects designed to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and industrial application, supporting the transition from research findings to practical development and innovation.
