Focusing on better cardiovascular research, education and care
Centro Cardiologico Monzino IRCCS is the first hospital in Europe exclusively dedicated to medical and surgical treatment and the study of cardiovascular diseases. It is a fundamental benchmark indeed for cardiovascular heart care throughout Italy and abroad.
Why choosing Centro Cardiologico Monzino?
Milan has the biggest heart of Europe, for many valid reasons. One of these reasons is represented by the Centro Cardiologico Monzino (CCM), that since 1992 became the first clinical research hospital (IRCCS) in Italy dedicated exclusively to cardiovascular diseases.
As a Centre of Excellence, Centro Cardiologico Monzino (CCM) offer complete cardiac care, addressing a wide variety of issues including:
- coronary heart disease
- arrhythmias
- heart value and replacement
- heart failure and hypertension
- thoracic and abdominal aortic disease
- aneurysms
- peripheral vascular disease
- venous insufficiency
- non-healing wounds
Our experts also work closely with other departments to address related health issues that affect the vascular system such as diabetes.
The hard work and dedication of our surgeons, interventional cardiologists, cardiologists and staff has paid off, making our program one of the leading cardiovascular centers in this area.
Clinical Activity
A team approach to individualized care.
The Clinical Activity of Centro Cardiologico Monzino is patient oriented and based on multidisciplinary projects and activities involving all the cardiovascular areas in order to provide the best possible experience for our patients. Moreover the research performed at CCM involves all the Institute’s Units and is aimed at developing innovations in the diagnostic therapeutic field and transferring the results of scientific work into clinical practice.
CCM Clinical Activity is performed on 6 main Departments; Cardiovascular Imaging (diagnostic services), Interventional Cardiology, Arrithmology and Electrophysiology, Cardiovascular Surgery, Critical and Clinical Cardiology, Urgent and Emergency Care. Every year, the Monzino takes care of the heart and the vessels of over 65,000 patients, with more than 9,100 Hospital admissions, more than 13,000 accesses in Emergency Unit, 1,400 surgical interventions and 7,300 Interventional procedures, 146,600 diagnostic examinations and 67,900 specialist consultations.
CCM is consistently placed among the top Italian hospitals for Cardiovascular Surgery, Haemodinamic and Electrophysiology. Moreover, it houses both cardiovascular imaging (CT/MRI/Echo) and Heart Failure (Mecki Score/ Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test) top-ranked programs.
Research activity
Our mission is to develop research in the cardiovascular field, providing an intellectual home and a critical mass of researchers who pursue translational research, favouring the interaction between basic researchers and cardiologists and/or cardiac or vascular surgeons. We aim to expand this critical mass by educating teaching staff to translational research, and functioning as a point of contact for external investigators and agencies interested in pursuing translational research in the cardiovascular field.
In 2018, in in our 14 Research Unit, the activity of 92 researchers led to 254 publications in scientific magazines (total of 1,702.45 Impact Factor points). Currently there are 221 research projects and 85 Clinical Trials running.
