The Monzino Cardiology Centre was established in 1981 with a donation from the Knight of Labour, Dr. Italo Monzino and the original idea of Prof. Cesare Bartorelli, of the University of Milan, who decided to create the first hospital in Europe exclusively dedicated to the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Today it is part of the IEO-Monzino group: two centres of excellence in the management of the major pathologies of the Western world, which reinvest all their profits in research and innovation.
The Monzino is accredited and affiliated with the Region of Lombardy and offers admissions and outpatient services under the National Health Service.
In 1992, it became the first clinical research hospital (IRCCS) in Italy dedicated exclusively to cardiovascular diseases. As an IRCCS, the Monzino pursues research, mainly clinical and translational, in the biomedical field as well as in the organization and management of health services, together with admissions and highly specialised treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
The activities of the Monzino Cardiology Centre are inspired by values such of specialisation, research, interdisciplinary care and continuity of services, aimed at keeping the person at the centre of attention.
