Dental prevention and treatment

The oral cavity plays an important role in the whole body. The teeth and gums, tongue and lips perform functions that are essential for our life. Careful oral hygiene and periodic monitoring by a dentist facilitate systemic therapies in sick patients, thus reducing the risk of complications, and help healthy people to avoid developing diseases of the mouth and whole body.

The dentistry service for Monzino 2 patients

In order to offer patients at the Monzino Centre the greatest continuity of care, the IEO-CCM group has created a Dental Prevention and Treatment service which, in collaboration with the dentist working in the two hospitals, offers the patient the advantage of a modern dental centre together with the decade of experience of specialised staff. The quality of the two clinical research hospitals (IRCCS) can be appreciated from the dental service, which is open to everyone.

The service includes:

  • prevention visit
  • development of a treatment plan
  • dental care

Prevention visit: the patient is evaluated at the Monzino 2 dental centre by a dentist before and during whatever type of therapy the patient undergoes. In this delicate phase any dental disorders that may interfere with the planned therapy are identified. A report is issued to the patient with the clinical information necessary for the patient's dentist to prepare a treatment plan.

Development of the treatment plan: at the request of the patient or the patient’s dentist, the staff of Monzino 2 dedicated to the service perform an in-depth specialist visit, indicate the treatment plan and issue a report with the details of the suggested dental therapy.

Dental care: at the request of the patient or the patient’s dentist, the staff of Monzino 2 dedicated to the service will perform some or all of the dental care set out in the treatment plan.

Dental prevention and treatment programme

There is already a dental prevention and treatment programme in function at Monzino 2. The aim is to implement the prevention and treatment programme, which is tailored on the basis of age and aimed at all families, in order to prevent or promptly diagnose diseases such as caries or periodontitis. In fact, if neglected, these diseases can sometimes cause important functional and aesthetic problems to the patients.

The indicated dental services can be assigned to professionals of the patients’ choice or to NHS structures that are expected to be connected in a network.

An "observatory" and new, complementary educational services are planned for residents of the Ponte Lambro district. In particular, the planned educational activities will include the organization of a day dedicated to the prevention of oral disorders, open to all residents of the district, with a clinical evaluation (dental examination) and instrumental diagnostics (panoramic dental X-ray or others if necessary).
